I. Opening & Introduction
- The Power of a Praying Mom: Reflected on the lyrics of Randy Travis's "When Mama Prayed," reminding us that mountains crumble and lives change when a mother intercedes for her children.
- A Worldwide Celebration: Mother’s Day is the third most celebrated holiday worldwide, standing right behind Christmas and Easter.
- The Humorous Realities of Motherhood: * The classic mom phrases we all know: "Because I said so" and "Shut your mouth and eat your food."
- How parenting changes from the first child (500 pictures, boiled pacifiers) to the third child (school pictures only, dusting off the pacifier).
II. Reminder 1: The Value of a Mother
- The "Salary" of a Mom: If you combined the roles a mother plays—CEO, facilities manager, cook, driver, launderer, and counselor—her corporate salary would easily top $115,000 to $200,000 a year.
- An Immeasurable Investment: You can never put a true dollar amount on a mother. She is essential. The blood, sweat, tears, and prayers invested in you shaped who you are today.
- The Challenge: Consider the heavy investment your mother made in you. How are you taking those principles and investing them into the lives of others?
III. Reminder 2: Mothers Shape the Future
- Mary at the Wedding in Cana (John 2): It was Jesus' mother who gave the nudge for His very first public miracle. She simply told the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." Her influence was the catalyst for revealing His glory.
- Building Up vs. Tearing Down: Proverbs 14:1 states, "The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hand, the foolish one tears it down." * The Weight of Our Words: Whether we are mothers, grandparents, or coworkers, our words carry weight. A mother's influence dictates whether we speak life and bring out the best in people, or if we breed negativity.
IV. Reminder 3: You Are Enough
- Built for a Purpose: In a world where families look vastly different (single parents, blended families), the enemy wants you to feel inadequate. But God made you for a purpose, and you are enough.
- Timothy's Heritage (2 Timothy 1:5): The Apostle Paul noted that Timothy's sincere faith lived first in his grandmother, Lois, and his mother, Eunice. Even without a Christian father in the picture, the faith of these two women was enough to shape a great biblical leader.
- The Legacy of Susanna Wesley: Despite living in poverty and navigating a difficult, separated marriage, Susanna Wesley faithfully taught her children the Bible. She never preached a sermon, but she raised John and Charles Wesley, the founders of the Methodist Church.
- God's Presence (Isaiah 43:2-3): God promises that when you pass through the waters and walk through the fire, He is with you. Sometimes, the most powerful thing a mother can do is simply be a faithful believer and pray.
V. Conclusion: Unconditional Love
- The Ultimate Glue: A mother possesses a profound, unconditional love. Even when a child wanders, fails, or hits rock bottom, a mother is often the only one still standing by their side, seeing their worth.
- A Reflection of the Father: That unconditional earthly love points directly to our Heavenly Father. God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us out of that exact same unconditional love. Regardless of our sin or our past, the Father loves us entirely.
