II. Introduction: The Unwelcome House Guest
- The Bug Analogy: Worry is like an unwelcome house guest (like bugs). It eats your peace for breakfast, your joy for lunch, and leaves you starving at dinnertime.
- The Physical and Mental Toll: Worry steals your favorite chair; you can't even sit and relax because anxiety forces you to keep moving.
- Different Worries: Women tend to worry about relationships and making things perfect (like Thanksgiving dinners), while men tend to worry about accomplishments and decisions. Ultimately, both lead to fear over things we cannot control.
III. Point 1: Life is More Than Your Immediate Needs (Luke 12:22-24)
- Consider the Ravens: Ravens (and even buzzards!) don't sow, reap, or store food in barns, yet God feeds them every single day.
- Made in His Image: We are made in the image of Christ. If God provides for the birds of the air, He will not leave His children out to dry.
- God is in Control: We often worry because we want control (like trying to put a child in a protective bubble as they grow up). We have to remember that God holds us in His hands, not the other way around.
IV. Point 2: Life is Wasted by Worry (Luke 12:25-28)
- No ROI on Worry: Who by worrying can add a single hour to their life? Jesus asks, if worry doesn't work, why do you keep investing in it?
- Misplaced Trust: Worry is a symptom of believing you are your own provider, protector, and sustainer. It takes God completely out of the equation.
- Consider the Lilies: Look at the beauty of flowers (like the azaleas in Palatka or the caladiums in Lake Placid). God clothes the grass of the field beautifully, and it is only temporary. How much more will He clothe you?
- The Rocking Chair: Worry is like sitting in a rocking chair or spinning your truck's tires in the mud. There is a lot of movement, but you aren't actually going anywhere.
- The Solution: Philippians 4:6-7 tells us to present our requests to God. Give it to Him, and He will guard your heart and mind with a peace that transcends understanding.
V. Point 3: Life is Secured by Seeking God's Kingdom (Luke 12:29-31)
- Surviving the Drought: When Florida goes through severe droughts, the grass turns brown, but the great oak trees survive. Why? Because their roots run incredibly deep. We must have deep spiritual roots to survive life's droughts.
- Matthew 6:33: "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you."
- The Exchange: If you take care of God's business, He will take care of yours. If you seek His will, He will handle your needs and your future.
VI. Conclusion: Celebration
- He is Capable: What are you worried about? If it's bills, He is Jehovah Jireh (The Lord who provides). If it's health, He is Jehovah Rapha (The Lord who heals). If it's your children, He is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
- Calvary: Jesus went to the cross with the weight of the world on His shoulders, but He didn't worry because He knew the grave couldn't hold Him. If Jesus can conquer death, He can certainly handle our daily worries. Let’s hand them over to Him.
